Experience in Murcia, Spain by Beatriz
What is it like to live in Murcia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I have been living in Murcia since I was a little child. The city is small, so you can go almost everywhere on foot. There are some beautiful turistic spots you should definetely visit, like the Cathedral, and also wonderful beaches in the region.
What is the student lifestyle like in Murcia?
In Murcia you can experience both a quiet or an active student life, it depends on what you are looking for. All faculties organize big parties once or twice a year which you can attend in order to meet different people who study other degrees. During the week, you can go to the tascas to have a beer with your friends or to dance.
How much does it cost to live in Murcia?
For students, it is quite cheap compared to other cities. If you go to the area around the university, one beer can cost you 1'5€ and you can eat well for 5 or 6€.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Murcia? Is there any advice you can give?
You can rent a student appartment for a good price, which in my opinion it's the best option. There are also a few student residences: Azarbe, which is in the city center, next to La Merced campus, and the Universitary Residence, out of the city, in Espinardo campus (however, I don't recomend this one, it is so far away).
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
You will find the food delicious. You should taste patatas bravas, marineras, montaditos... And if you don't like it, you can always order a burguer almost in any pub!
What places would you recommend visiting in Murcia?
The Cathedral, the Town Hall square, La Merced square... You can also take a bus to go to Cartagena to see the old roman theatre or the port. You should also visit La Manga and relax on its beautiful beaches and have a good party!
Is it good to eat out in Murcia? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
The tascas, next to La Merced, its the best option to eat well for a low price. El Chapas is one popular place for students to go out for dinner.
Is the nightlife good in Murcia? Where is good to go?
The tascas zone is the most popular are to go party for sure. If you fancy going to the disco, you should also go to Atalayas.
What advice would you give future students heading to Murcia?
It is really, really hot. Don't bring so many winter clothes.
