Erasmus Experience in Murcia, Spain by Teresa
What's it like to live in Murcia? Do you recommend it? How is it?
Life is Murcia is quite laid back, I personally love it and yes I recommend it. Great weather, the city is not too large and everything is close by. In my case, I never had to use public transport within the city except to get to university, as my campus was on the outskirts (Espinardo campus) and it took 25 minutes from the city centre by tram or bus. But for the rest of the time, I was able to walk everywhere.

What's student life like in Murcia?
You'll see loads of students as you walk through the city centre. There's always a student atmosphere, as this is where the Merced campus is situated and many student live here, as many in rented flats as student residences. Also there are many pedestrianised zones which are full of cafés, bars, shops... and these are the best places to walk around. And when it comes to the evenings you have the 'tascas', which are establishments more geared towards nights out and drinking. Plus students from different subjects mix, during both the parties organised by the faculties (known as 'paellas') as well as at private parties which take place in the nightclubs.

How much does it cost to live in Murcia?
Living in Murcia is never expensive. Everyone has their own way of life and routine, but neither food, transport nor accommodation is expensive in comparison with many other Spanish and European cities.
Was it hard to find accommodation in Murcia? Do you have any advice?
Finding accommodation in Murcia is quite easy. Generally students who decide to live here find flats, although there are also good student halls.
Flats are not expensive and they can be found all over the city, so it depends on what you are looking for; you can find it in one area or another.
The average price for a room in a student flat is around 150-175 euros. There are some that are more expensive (200 euros approx), in which the furniture and electrical appliances will be better.
How's the country's food? What are your favourite dishes?
The country's food, in my opinion, is almost perfect. They have everything, you can eat 'junk food' as often as you want, but everywhere you can eat healthy food if that's what you want. Any product is available, both in supermarkets as well as in bars/restaurants.
