Why did you choose to go to Murcia, Spain?

I did not want to go to a very touristic city with many other English speakers there because I wanted to learn the language more efficiently. Although there are many Erasmus students and Americans who all speak perfect English, when conversing with the locals Spanish is necessary. I also wanted to go somewhere with awesome warm weather like Murcia but still be in a city environment.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship lasts 6 months and I received 550€ a month from Erasmus and my university for rent and food.

What is the student lifestyle like in Murcia?

The student life is very enjoyable. If you live in the centre everyone lives very close to one another and you can walk everywhere. There is a relaxed atmosphere throughout the city and all the students and locals are extremely friendly and helpful.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Murcia to other students?

Yes, most definitely. As long as you want to learn Spanish and experience an authentic Spanish city in a warm environment then it is the right place for you.

What is the food like?

The food throughout the city is overall quite good. Every block has at least two places you can grab a bite to eat and there are some really nice restaurants in Plaza Santo Domingo and the square by the Cathedral.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Murcia?

I went through a university service called Vimur where they help you find an apartment to live and it was very easy.

How much does it cost to live in Murcia?

I pay way too much for my apartment per month which is 330 euros, although it is very nice and in the center of the city, but I know it is very easy to find cheap apartments around 130 euros a month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

If you try hard you will get it with in the first few months and yes there are language courses at the university.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Murcia from your city?

By plane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Murcia?

Revolver is a very funny bar where they play great alternative and Rock'n'Roll music, if you're looking for more mainstream dance music with the student atmosphere go to Badulake.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The cathedral, the Jesus statue aka Cristo de Monteagudo.

The Beach is a short hour away, the open street market on Thursdays and much more I have not seen yet.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Murcia in the future?

Don't be nervous about the language barrier, it will be well worth it.
