Erasmus experience in Murcia, Spain

Why did you decide to go to Murcia, Spain?

For my faculty, Murcia was the only Spanish university in the Erasmus program.

How long is the grant available for? How much money did you receive as support?

Half a year. In my opinion, it is sufficient if the Spanish lectures does not contribute to the German studies. The grant was 150 Euros plus an additional payment of around 300 Euros at the end.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Murcia to other students?

The city is probably a bit too small for whoever comes from Berlin. I, however, liked it because it was not a touristic city.

What is the national cuisine like?

Great - I put on weight.

How was your accommodation?

At the beginning of September, there are many notices on the campus "la Merced". I saw a few there, which is really recommended if you would like to live with Spaniards. At the Erasmus office at uni, there is also a placement service. The flats are however, in most cases, more expensive and in the worst case scenario you live with other other German students...

What were the accommodation costs like? And the costs in general?

In regards to living quality - I lived in a run down apartment, for which I only paid 140 Euros. All in all, the food was expensive, bus journeys to other cities were in contrast reasonable.

Is the language easy to understand? Does the university offer language courses?

I had a few problems with the dialect... the language course at the university was okay as it gives you the grammatical tools to understand what you have overheard in the streets. At the beginning of September there is a free 2 week course which is pleasant in order to get to know new people.
