Erasmus experience in Murcia, Spain

Why did you choose to go to Murcia, Spain?

I wanted to go to Spain to make the most of the good weather and the cheerfulness of the Spanish people!

How long are you staying in Spain for? How much financial aid will you receive?

From mid-February to end of June. I received the Erasmus grant (around €600 if I am not mistaken).

What is the student life like in Murcia?

The Spanish atmosphere is: welcoming!

Would you recommend the city and Murcia university to other students?

The city yes. The university's facilities yes, but not really the classes...

What's the food like in this country?

Incredible! Cheap fresh fruit and vegetables. They're tasty and healthy.

How did you find your accommodation?

Via VIMUR, an association at the university. But you have to pay and it's not so good because they make you think that you can choose a flat, but in the end you don't have a choice.

There is the Instituto Hispanico de Murcia, but they also try to rip people off (not giving the deposit back, making people pay more rent than expected... ). The best thing to do is to turn up and find somewhere when you're there.

How much is the rent? And cost of things in general?

Between 150 and 300 euros a month... Southern Spain is not very expensive... you can fill up your fridge for €20 at Mercadona.

Bars are a lot cheaper than in France (and especially Paris! ).

How is the language learning? Have you been to language classes organised by the university?

No, I haven't. Everyone speaks Spanish, and it's easy to fit in (Latin language obligation).

What's the cheapest way to get to Murcia from where you live?

Paris-Alicante with Ryanair and the bus Alicante-Murcia with ALSA.

Be careful with Ryanair, in Paris they're more relaxed than in Alicante and they are very strict with their baggage allowances (they wanted me to get rid of some clothes from my suitcase... ).

Which places would you recommend for partying in Murcia?

The most well-known bar is the Badulake, an Erasmus landmark. For more authentic bars, the Revolver is fun for playing billiards and drinking beer sitting on big sofas.

And what about eating in Murcia? What are your favourite places?

Le Lizzaran towards the cathedral where they serve all-you-can-eat tapas and you pay 1 euro per tapas. And the waiters are very friendly!

And which cultural visits would you recommend?

The cathedral and the surrounding cities (Seville, Granada... ).
