I want to find a house NOW!

3 months in Murcia, Spain

I went to Murcia for three months as part of an internship working as an English teacher, so here's a brief account of my experience there. I chose to go to Murcia due to the sunshine... and to refresh my Spanish a bit.

How do you get to Murcia?

Given that I come from Perpignan, I went there via car which took about 8 hours, and that gave me the option of having my car there with me.

However when I went home for a weekend I went via plane, and from Perpignan, it's not that easy. I found the best way was to fly from Barcelona.

Accommodation

As is the norm, I found it hard to find accommodation for just 3 months, the landlords were mostly asking for a stay of minimum 5 - 6 months. The best thing to do is house-share, I personally found my accommodation through Airbnb! I was going to find a place once I arrived in Spain, seeing as I hadn't found anything when looking from France, but at the last minute, I was able to find accommodation through Airbnb. It cost me around 230 euros per month, but you could easily find something cheaper, especially if you're staying for longer.

The weather

Contrary to what I'd been told, it isn't always really sunny in Murcia! I arrived at the end of January, therefore it isn't that surprising that it wasn't summer-time weather. I had a bit of a cold and there also wasn't any heating in my accommodation, like most of the homes here. I was told that it was a colder winter than normal. It rained quite a few times, and up until April (the end of my internship). The weather is quite unpredictable and there are big variations in temperature, I left at 8. 30 in the morning with my big jacket on, and come the afternoon I was basking in the sun in a t-shirt. It started to reach quite high temperatures (up to 26 degrees Celsius in March).

Nightlife in Murcia

I didn't have much chance to go out due to my internship taking up a lot of my time, but the most popular spot for Erasmus students is Badulake, a bar which regularly holds nights out for international students, with special deals and different themes each week.
