That’s not a name we’ve assigned, but something Chennai is popularly known as. Leading manufacturers like Hyundai, BMW, Ford, Mitsubishi, and Daimler have lent an enormous hand to the city’s status as an automobile hub. Chennai’s location, proximity to the sea port, government policies, among other things, make it ideal for these giants to set up their plants here. Apart from automobiles, Chennai is also quickly growing to become an IT hub of India. Not in Bangalore’s league yet, the city does have a lot of start-ups coming up. It also has some of the best corporate offices in the country. Take, the TCS building, for instance.

Yes, Mumbai has Juhu Beach and Chowpaty. But have you ever been able or courageous enough to dip more than your big toe in the water? Probably not. Chennai on the other hand offers a perfect local getaway with quiet and clean beaches. It is home to the iconic Marina Beach, the second longest beach in the world. If you stay on the East Coast Road you will be gifted with a gentle sea-breeze coupled with the salty smell of sea-water.

There is no other city than Chennai that will understand the love for cinema Mumbaikars have. After all this is the land of the original thalaiva, Rajnikanth. After him, do you even need any more reasons?
Cost of living

From a living perspective, compared to the prices of houses in Mumbai, Chennai is at the lower end of the spectrum. If you are living alone, you can stay comfortably in a good neighbourhood, without having your living room merge into your bedroom. Apart from this, your daily expenses on food and travel work out to be much cheaper than the prices of cosmopolitan Bombay.
