Experience in Moscow, Russian Fereration by Horizons
What is it like to live in Moscow? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I think diplomas earned in Russia's two biggest cities; Moscow and St Petersburg are more credible than diplomas earned in provincial towns.
The downside is that Moscow in the most expensive city to live in for students: 40000 roubles and more for a decent one-room bedsit downtown.
What is the student lifestyle like in Moscow?
It's hard to survive on a tight budget in Moscow even if you are economical. The upside Moscow has everything a student needs, sports facilities, coffee shops, malls, parks.
The downside, if a student gets seriously sick, going to a private clinic may be a better option, for unless you're seen a serious emergency case and your life is in danger, you may not be taken seriously.
How much does it cost to live in Moscow?
Not less than $5000+ $1000 rent if you don't want a daily one-hour ride in the metro to your university and back home.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Moscow? Is there any advice you can give?
Yes, unless you get help from locals, which is not easy.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
All types of fruits are available in shops, the same cannot be said about veggies.
What places would you recommend visiting in Moscow?
The Golden mile, the central administrative area: mind-blowing!
Magnificent architecture, all types of facilities, green space, simply 'stunning'
Is it good to eat out in Moscow? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Moscow has all kinds of restaurants, including ethnic restaurants run by Syrians, Turkish. There are Italian, French restaurants as well.
The food looks excellent.
I've tried Sushi which is available everywhere in Moscow and it's absolutely delicious!
Is the nightlife good in Moscow? Where is good to go?
I've been to some Moscow discos a few times, I prefer not to stay out late at night especially that I don't drive.
What advice would you give future students heading to Moscow?
Moscow is not for people with a tight budget. Students heading to Moscow need to be patient by nature because they will find themselves in situations when they are helpless.
