Experience in Montreal, Canada by Rebecca
What is it like to live in Montreal? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Living in Montreal is great. It's very easy to get around (public transportation is frequent and everywhere), we live a relatively quick-paced lifestyle, and people welcome and encourage diversity.
What is the student lifestyle like in Montreal?
Student life in Montreal is pretty standard. We take school seriously, eat lots of good food, and party on the weekends!
How much does it cost to live in Montreal?
Renting a place in downtown Montreal can be a little expensive. If living downtown is out of your price range, I suggest searching for a space in the suburbs (ex: NDG, LaSalle). Downtown is very accessible through public transportation and usually takes around 30 minutes to get to.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Montreal? Is there any advice you can give?
Montreal is a big city and there's always some place to rent.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food in Montreal is diverse, affordable, and tasty! At the restaurant Brit & Chips, I enjoy the Salmon with Guinness Batter, the Peanut Butter Chicken at Kanda, and the Fleur de Sel Caramel Brownie at Juliette & Chocolat for something sweet!
What places would you recommend visiting in Montreal?
The Old Port is a great area to walk around, with entertainers on the cobblestone streets, old buildings, and lots of restaurants around. Mont Royal is a nice area to walk, have a picnic, and to look out onto a lovely view of downtown Montreal. The Notre-Dame Basilica is a beautiful church located in Old Montreal.
Is it good to eat out in Montreal? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Montreal is well known for its food. Great spots to eat are Brit & Chips, The Keg, Kanda, and Wienstein & Gavino's.
Is the nightlife good in Montreal? Where is good to go?
The nightlife is great in Montreal! There are two main streets that have loads of clubs and bars: St Laurent and Crescent. Rouge, Buona Notte, and Nesta are all popular spots.
What advice would you give future students heading to Montreal?
Take some time to explore the city, talk to the people (we're generally friendly), and eat our food!
