5 Parks That You Should Visit in Miraflores
Hello everybody! I hope that you are all well. As we already known, Miraflores is an excellent tourist district. There are a lot of restaurants, bars, shops, accommodation and all of the services that a traveller needs to have all the comforts during their stay in Lima.
However, there are places that are free and open air parks that should be explored in your tour of this area of Lima. Especially people who love nature or taking a quiet walk while taking in the history of the district. I have prepared the following list of five parks that you can visit in Miraflores.
Without further introductions, let's start with the recommendations.
1. Raimondi Park
Raimondi Park is located in Malecón Cisneros in Miraflores. It has the privilege of being on the Costa Verde (Green Coast). There is a maze made from trees in the park and it is very well known for being where people go to do paragliding on the coast of Lima. However, keep in mind that this depends on the weather and the intensity of the wind on the day. Anyway, even if you don't want to do paragliding, you can still take pictures of other people doing it.
2. María Reiche Park
The next park that I want to tell you about is also located in Malecón Cisneros and it got its name from the lady of the lines. This is the great German investigator, Maria Reiche. She was a mathematician and archaeologist who came to Peru with the archaeologist called Julio C. Tello. Together they began their intense investigation of the enigmatic Nazca Lines found in the Ica region. This courageous woman arrived in Peru in the '30s and was here until she died. Today, Peru owes a lot to her, thanks to her great investigations and contributions to the Nazca culture. On the journey to Miraflores park, you will find figures that are shown in the Nazca lines such as the hummingbird which is known in the Nazca culture. You will also see other figures that represent this culture.
3. The Park of Love
Not to forget the most visited park in Miraflores, the famous Park of Love which gets its name from the monument inside it, called the kiss. You will also find some different coloured, mosaic benches, with phrases about love by many Peruvian authors. This park is also a good place to watch the sunset and you can also see another romantic spot from the lower part of the beach which is the restaurant, Rosa Náutica.
4. Kennedy Park
This park is known as being the cat park. At the weekend, this is the meeting point for people from Lima. There are not only cats but benches and seating areas where you can sit down and watch the hustle and bustle of Lima. If you are a cat lover, this is the park for you! This reminds me of a video of a blogger that came to Peru specifically to visit this park and was more than surprised by it and the video is pretty funny. To watch it on Youtube, click here (the video is in English so I will give you a chance to practice the language).
5. Reducto n. º 2 Park
This is one of the quietest parks in Miraflores. Something special about the park is that it has an old locomotive and canons from the Pacific war. The bloody war took place in the 19th century between Peru and Bolivia, against Chile. However, there is also a museum in the park, dedicated to the "Wizard of the Andes" Do you know who he is? I am talking about Andrés Avelino Cáceres. In this small but interesting museum, you will find photographs from that era as well as the history of the Battle of Miraflores which was fought in defence of the city of Lima.
As you can see, dear friends, these are five parks that you can visit in Miraflores and, in fact there are many others such as Ricardo Palma park and Alfred Salazar Park where the shopping centre Larcomar is located, among many others. Come and explore each of these points of Miraflores!
I hope that you have enjoyed this small description and that it is useful to you, when you come to Lima! Thank you for reading these stories and references of places that transcend time and make us think about Lima as having the right to be a better place to live! Until next time, Lima-lovers! Let's make sure we continue to learn more about this beautiful city in order to appreciate it to the maximum.
I wish you all an amazing day!
