My Erasmus Experience in Milan, Italy
Why did you choose to go to Milan, Italy?
Because of the country and the culture.
How long does the grant last? How much money do you get for help?
I did not receive a grant. Every month I had an allowance of 750 euros. That paid to pay for food, income and life in the city.
What is the student environment like in Milan?
Great. There are lots of students, many cultures together and young people who go there for the same reason.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Milan to other students?
Always.
How about the country's food?
Wonderful!
How did you find accommodation?
Walking down the streets of Milan. I responded to many advertisements I found around the city. I chose one of them.
How are the prices of accommodation? And the prices in general?
I shared a two bedroom apartment with 2 other people. Each of us paid 300 euro/month plus bills.
How is the language? Did you attend a language course at the University?
Yes. The University of Milan gave us an opportunity to attend an Italian course. For those who speak Romance languages, like me, it is easy. Because we always conjugate all the verbs, as in Italian or Spanish.
What is the most economical way to get to Vienna from your city?
By airplane. Being an Erasmus student you sometimes get an additional baggage allowance in some airlines.
Where do you recommend for a night out in Milan?
Alcatraz! It's the best nightclub ever.
And to eat out in Milan? Can you name your favourite places?
My group of friends and I always went to a Japanese restaurant near the “Centralle” station. Luckily the best Italian dishes were made there, which were affordable on our budget.
And in terms of cultural visits?
Milan is not a romantic city, full of history on the walls, like Rome for example. But we have, of course: the Duomo, a fantastic example of architecture that took 500 years to complete; Vitorio Emanuel Galleries; Cemiterio Monumental and others.
Do you have any advice you would like to give to future students in Milan?
Enjoy it. Get to know Milan and the other cities in the country. Be open to meeting thousands of different people from different cultures. Walk a lot, that's how you get to know a city. And choose Milan as your city, because it's worth it.
