Life and Erasmus in Milano

Milano is amazing! I studied at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti and fell in love with the city. So much that I will be going back to get my Masters Degree in Milan. I lived close by the Naviglio and it was the perfect area, close to Porta Ticinese, great shops and even better food.

If you are in the mood for an authentic italian pizza go to Riviera, the pizza al metro is a meter long pizza that everyone should experience. Also in that area, a great and cheap aperitivo can be had at the Mayflower Pub. They give you a huge full glass (wine or cocktail) and unlimited food for just 5 euro. Unlike some of the bars along the Naviglio Grande that fill your glass up 1 inch for 7 euro.

Across the street is Gecko's pub, it has strange hours and is usually pretty empty but if you make friends with Marko he will hook you up with some of the best drinks and appetizers. Below is a picture of just one of the amazing drinks I had at Gecko's, make sure to ask for a surprise.

Mag on the Naviglio Grande is a trendy place to have a drink. Get there early if you want a spot to sit. Milan can be expensive but if you pay attention you can manage to have a great time for a small price. The best restaurants and pubs are the hidden gems that are still owned and operated by Italian families.

My group of friends only went out clubbing a few times. Make sure to wear a cross-body purse that will not be left behind or taken easily. When out and needing food at 1 am the only thing open is pizza kabop or maybe a strange little market, but some have surprisingly good selections (make sure to check expiration dates at the strange little markets). Below is a picture of me and a pizza from a really great Pizza Kabop near the smaller Naviglio.

Some sunny weekends, there are also markets in Naviglio where you can find anything from flowers to antiques. There are artists that have shops open as well in this area and you can find beautiful little paintings of Milanese architecture. Make sure to also climb up to the top of the Duomo.

Wine tasting at Chateau Monfort is also a great experience. It may be a little expensive but if you get a big group together, it is doable! After the gallery there is a tasting.

I love talking about Milan, if anyone needs suggestions ask away :)
