What is it like to live in Milan? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I've lived in Milan for most of my life so of course I would recommend it! Milan is a big beautiful city but sometimes it can take a while to get used to. It can seem grey and foggy but if you just learn to look around you'll see wonderful places.

What is the student lifestyle like in Milan?

Milan has increasingly become a student city. Most of them come from the south, because of the quality of our universities but there's a good amount of foreigners too. Meeting other students is seriously easy.

How much does it cost to live in Milan?

It's not cheap for sure! Rent is crazy and most bars and grocery stores offer very high prices! However, if one does not want to indulge in a 10 euros sandwich the city is full of cheaper places. I suggest looking at places that look ugly or trashy but may have amazing food! Fancy looking places are often a disappointment.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Milan? Is there any advice you can give?

I don't know much about this honestly. All the advice I can give is to ask other students and look in person and not online. Milan is busy and rents are high but it's not impossible to find rooms.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food in Milan is Italian, of course, and it's amazing. Pasta and Pizza are typical(fish, not so much), I recommend a small pizzeria called Da Daniele near Porta Genova! Amazing! Typical Milanese dishes are Risotto which is rice cooked in a particular way and cotoletta which is a schnitzel. Asking locals is best!

What places would you recommend visiting in Milan?

My favourite places in Milan are not the obvious ones. I like art and gardens so the Pinacoteca di Brera is one of my favourite places. It has an amazing museum, a great garden and a library. The whole neighbourhood is nice though. Another nice place mostly for locals is the Amphitheater park. It's reachable through a little brown door in the middle of via de amicis.

Is it good to eat out in Milan? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

The whole neighbourhood around Navigli is great for eating places. Near Colonne di San Lorenzo one can find a pita place which is seriously great. A little pricier but nice for a night out are Cumino Bistrot and Rossopomodoro!

Is the nightlife good in Milan? Where is good to go?

Milan is famous in northern Italy for its nightlife. Whether you like hanging out and chillin or partying hard Milan is the city for you. Places like Brera, Navigli(Darsena is a nice place) or Colonne di San Lorenzo have nice bars and lots of people at night. For clubbing places like Volt, Wall or Amnesia are pretty popular. Tom is a more alternative place and Magazzini has gay nights sometimes.

What advice would you give future students heading to Milan?

Be open to things and do not stop at fist impressions. Milan is not an open city and it won't welcome you with open arms. It's extremely beautiful in its own elegant way and it will show you things you've never even imagined if you're up for it. Good luck!
