Erasmus Milan 2015-2016
Why did you choose to go to Milan, Italy
Since I didn’t have a B1 English qualification, I could only go to Portugal or Italy. I would prefer to go to a big city in Italy, like Milan, and I’d heard bad things about Rome.
How long was your grant for? How much money did you receive?
For the whole year I received €1, 500.
How is student life in Milan?
Incredible. I think it’s the best place to go if you’re Spanish. You go out to parties and there’s always loads of Spaniards hanging out around the clubs and the majority of them are really nice.
Would you recommend the city and Milan University to other students?
Of course, it’s been the best decision of my life.
How is the food in Italy?
Incredible is an understatement. I’d never tasted such delicious ice cream in my life.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Milan?
“La Bicocca” has two student halls:
- U12:At the university, (a lot worse in my opinion, not as many parties)
- U22:Half an hour from the uni (a great atmosphere)
What is the cost of living in Milan?
The two student residencies cost €300 a month. Then it depends on what you yourself spend. I normally spent around €600 a month (going out 3 days a week).
How did you get on with the language? Did you attend a course at the University?
I did one course in Madrid and then another when I arrived. You can more or less understand people and be understood, but speaking well is another matter entirely. Little by little.
What is the most cost-effective way to get to Milan from your hometown?
Ryanair.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Milan?
- Tuesday: Holliwood (€1)
- Wednesday: Old Fashion (€1)
- Thursday: The Club (€1)
- Friday: Alcatraz (€10)
- Saturday: Le Banque (€1)
With your ESN card the nights out are cheap. The parties are good but don’t compare them to those in Spain at all. The clubs close at 5am here.
What about eating out in Milan? Can you tell us your favourite places?
- Luini - Panzerotti
- Spontini - Pizza
- Gelati Italiani - Helados
They are all close to the Duomo and beside each other. It’s a sin not to go.
Any advice for future students in Milan?
Go to Milan, it will be the best year of your life, loads of new experiences and new friends. From my point of view, if you go to La Bicocca stay at the halls, it’s much better because the people there all stick together.
Enjoy!
