Erasmus Experience in Milano, Italy by Johan Fredrik
Why did you choose to go to Milan, Italy?
Mainly because of the school, Bocconi, which is really good. I also have a lot of relations in Italy.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship lasts for 3 years. I get approximately 12 000 Euros a year to cover my living costs.
What is the student lifestyle like in Milan?
As far as I know, Milan is the student city of Italy. There are at least 4 big schools with lots of international students. The night life is really nice, Milan is especially know for their aperitivo'a, where you pay 10 euros for one drink and buffet. There are lots of clubs that are far better than the ones I've been to in other countries. Talking with my friends in other countries, it seems like Milan is a way more active city. In the sense that there is always something happening, if I don't have any plans a night, a quick search in facebook groups always leaves me with multiple events to attend.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Milan to other students?
I would really like to recommend both the city and the school to other students.
What is the food like?
If you like Italian food, then you're pretty much covered. Cheap and really good food is to be found throughout the city. There are also different kinds of cuisines, especially the concept of all you can eat sushi is well established.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Milan?
Yes. I payed a firm to gather offers, it cost 250 euros.
How much does it cost to live in Milan?
It is pretty expensive, most pay between 500 and 800 euro a month, everything inclusive. If you have contacts or start to search early, you can find very nice places near the universities for around 300!
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
This really depends on the person, I find it easy. There are courses at Bocconi, don't know about the others.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Milan from your city?
If you book early, flight is really inexpensive. Carsharing can also be very cheap. I've found the trains to be almost the same price as flights.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Milan?
Where other students go, ask around! Tgere are always many people at: Just Cavalli, Old Fashion, Gattopardo, Byblos.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Milan?
Anything near Navigli is good, but the best experiences is when you go out and find new places yourself. My best recommendation is to go where major part of the costumers are Italian.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Lots, search online.
