Why did you choose to go to Milan, Italy?

It's located very well if you want to travel , and if you want to experience a big city. I'd say milan is quite similar ( but a lot smaller!) than london in that it is always moving, theres lots to do and see.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I'm here for a year. The rent is quite high, depending on where you want to live and who to live with, I chose a single room in a shared apartment which is probably around medium cost, but I know it is cheaper to share rooms, etc if you want to keep costs low.

What is the student lifestyle like in Milan?

It is great as there are lots of universities in milan, there is always something to do, and lots of young people to meet. In terms of nights out there are erasmus nights which are cheaper, although in general it is not too expensive.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Milan to other students?

yes definitely, the city is so much fun to live in - I think it is better to live here than to visit as there is a lot to do here if you do some research and accumulate local knowledge, which you would probably miss if you were just visiting. the university is a great building and the lectures are interesting, i found that they were particularly good at bringing in guest speakers which is something i really enjoyed.

What is the food like?

the food is great, in milan it is popular to go for aperitivo ( buy a cocktail and have a buffet style dinner) which works out much cheaper than going out for dinner but also you get to experience lots of different food and places.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Milan?

no as I found it through a friend

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

my italian is definitely improving , although it is hard as i am a native english speaker and everyone seems to speak english! I have to try hard to speak italian. the uni provides a free language course which is very valuable

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Milan from your city?

I fly to milan from england and it is very very cheap- normally under 30€ for a return journey.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Milan?

yes definitely there are many bars and clubs to go to spread out over the city.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

the duomo is probably the most famous and i'd really recommend going to the roof!

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Milan in the future?

really throw yourself in as it is a vibrant city, well connected and has lots to do.
