Living Costs - Shopping in Markets

To continue with the subject of "living costs", I would like to speak about the option of doing your shopping further from the city centre, but which is no less interesting.

This one time I was coming home at about midday. When I was approaching my road I noticed a strange movement, simply "out of nowhere" a mountain of stalls had appeared, selling everything imaginable. I decided to go back to this market. From this moment, whenever it appears, I go to check it out.

Some things that can be found in the market: all types of clothes, shoes, underwear, socks, bags, accessories, nail varnish, hygiene products, items for the house, fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, spices... and even more stuff.

Where and when does it come? As far as I know, various locations in the city! Each day of the week this market is put up in a specific place, always by the morning. An easy one to find is the one that takes place on Tuesday and Saturday mornings (or until the beginning of the afternoon) close to the S. Agostino metro station. This market is bigger than any I've ever seen in Milan, in the number of things in the tents as much as the number of people visiting. All you need to do to find it is to get the green metro line to S. Agostino, and when you exit the metro it's practically impossible to miss it.

Regarding the market of S. Agostino, the number of people can be annoying. There are so many that it's difficult to walk! And also it means you have to take care of your belongings.

But anyway, what are the advantages?

The biggest and most obvious advantage of all, the price, of course! In the market it's possible to find lots of lovely things for a ridiculously low price. Of course, there are items that are really bad quality, but in general the products offered are very satisfactory.

My experience of this market has always been excellent, I've bought clothes and bags for 5 euros, boots for 15, sturdy coats for 25, all good quality. I also think it's worth buying fruit and spices in the market. They are cheaper, fresher and more varied than in the supermarket.

If you want to save money, I would suggest finding the closest market to your house. At the least, it will be fun to give it a look!
