Since coffee is so popular in Italy, you can basically find it almost anywhere in Milan: bar, restaurants, relaxing coffee shops etc. offer it at a very cheap price (some types of coffee cost less than €1 in these places, so yeah indeed very cheap). But if, like me, you are not a big fan of coffee, you need to find alternatives. I am more of a tea person, but tea is quite expensive here (like €4-€5 for just one cup of tea, which I personally think is really too much…). So, in this post I will give you the name of places where you can find coffee among many other types of beverage and food, and where everybody can find something they like.

Arnold Coffee

Arnold Coffee is the closest thing to a Starbucks in Milan (since Starbucks isn’t really present in Italy). It has a very American style, especially in the food and drinks they offer. You can find many different types of coffee, from the small Italian espresso to the big American coffee, and tea. This is also the only place in Milan where I could ever find Chai Tea, which is my absolutely favorite thing to drink. All drinks are available in different sizes and can either be consumed there or taken away. The prices are not so high for an American coffee, meaning coffee might be a little more expensive than in other bars or coffee shops, but if we compare it to Starbucks for example I think their products are less expensive.

You can find their shops in different parts of the city, but the biggest one is located in via Orefici, between the Piazza Cordusio and the Piazza Duomo.

Panini Durini

Panini Durini is probably the most popular coffee chain in the population of students in Milan. They have everything to make them happy: wide offering, low prices, good quality and they can be found literally everywhere across the city, and especially near the universities. Their list of coffee is quite impressive because it is so long and has so many different types of coffee that you would have never thought about some of them. Since they do not have so much tea, I tried their “Macchiato Chai” and “Cappuccino Chai” and I honestly loved it because you can’t feel the coffee at all. Panini Durini also offers many pastries and possibilities for lunch and dinner, such as sandwiches or real meals served in plates (talking about that, their avocado toast is sooooo good).

So, this coffee chain is very appreciated and there are reasons for that! Along with everything I already mentioned, the atmosphere in their shops is really nice, with great music. One possible drawback is that it often gets really crowded, especially for the shops located near universities, but again for them it’s quite a good thing.

(You might also have seen the cup in the following picture, where you can read “I drink good coffee” on the Internet or in the streets of Milan if you have ever been there, know that these cups are from them! They usually give it when you order a take-away drink).

Cioccolatitaliani

Cioccolatitaliani (you have to understand Cioccolati italiani, meaning Italian chocolate) i salso a very popular coffee shop chain among students. Some of their shops are really big, with huge windows that let you see all the street, but for some other, especially the ones located in the center, you barely have space to drink or eat as there are no tables. Anyway, they also offer a lot of coffee, tea, chocolate drinks as well as pastries. The price is a little higher than the other ones according to me.

One thing that I really loved there was the waffles: you can have them with sugar, fruits, Nutella and many other things, and they are reallyyy delicious.

I think these are, according to me, some of the best and most popular coffee shop chains in Milan, where you will probably find anything you could crave and where most of the students in this city spend their time. There are also of course many other coffee, chain or not, that also offer a really relaxing atmosphere, as in Navigli for example, where they have such an amazing setting with a canal right in front of them.
