Why did you choose to go to Metz, France?

Because my Italian teacher knew an Italian girl who lives and works there at university.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I got the Erasmus Placement scholarship for 6 months (from the 24th of January to the 24th of July) and I received 3000 € in total. First I received 2400 € after I arrived in Metz and the other 600 € once I was back in Italy.

What is the student life like in Metz?

If you are a student and live in an university residence it's quite fun. It's full of other students, both Erasmus and local. Metz is a pleasant city, not too noisy and you can have fun if you are in good company.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Metz to other students?

Yes, of course. It's the kind of lifestyle I like: the city is quiet but amazing.

What is the food like?

I didn't really like the food, but maybe because I'm Italian.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Metz?

I found it really easy because the person I knew helped me with the residence.

How much is the cost of living in Metz?

It's a little bit more expensive than living in Italy, but it's not too high.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I attended a language course at university and it was good. The only problem with this kind of courses is that it gathers students from all over the world and it's difficult to arrange it to take place at a time that suits everyone.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Metz from your city?

By plane from Italy to Frankfurt or Charleroi and then you can find buses to go to Metz.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Metz?

Irish pubs, there's a little Irish pub where there's Irish live music every Friday. But Metz is full of other places where you can have fun. Vivan's is perfect during the happy hour. And don't forget la Comédie, where all Erasmus students go to have a beer.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Metz?

Alexander's restaurant is really good, I liked the atmosphere and everything I ate there.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

St. Etienne Cathedral, very interesting and striking with all its stained glasses (by Chagall). Metz is full of history and places to visit. Even going for a walk along the river can be a great experience.

Is there any other piece of advice that you would like to give to students going to Metz in the future?

Don't be afraid to share your experience with students you will meet there, they are just students like you and the first person you meet can become a good friend.
