Gole Alcantara
If you are living in Sicily island, you should visit Gole Alcantara. It takes 30 minutes from Taormina to arrive there.
It is a botanical and geological Park near the Etna Mountain. When the volcano erupted in the past, the lava created a unique ballast rock columns. So, today, you may observe lava crystallization. There are accumulated lava on both sides and in the middle, a river is passing. This water is coming from lonian sea. I would like to warn you that the water is so cold. You can see the deep of water. During the summer time sometimes you may be able to see a waterfall.
Under the water there is no sand but rocks so that it is higly recomended that you should take some precautions because there are many rocks. When you follow the river and go forward the water is going to be deeper and deeper and of course getting colder. The water is flowing so fast.
What can do you do when you arrive there?
There are many options to do when you arrive there once. You can hang out at the beach and put your legs into the cool water. Nowadays it is getting more popular.
A second option you can make a body rafting at Gole Alcantara. But you should swim perfectly because it seems to me dangerous. You may get injured if you do not be careful.
A third option; if you are able to climb rocks, Gole Alcatara offer you many trials to climb lava. There are to trials for climbing which are called Eleonor and Alcantara.
Another option if you are looking for different activities, up to this place there is a natural botanical and geological park. Entrance is only one euro. It has such nice landscapes, views and historical monuments in the park. There are interesting orange gardens for the people who likes nature.
How much time it takes to go Gole Alcantara from Taormina?
It takes only half an hour to get there, if you have a private car even less. You can find ticket from Taormina bus station. If you go there by car, parking is also free.
What about foods? Can you recommed a good restaurant at Gole Alcantara?
At the entrance of the botanical park there is a fascinating restaurant which you can find also some local foods. Prices of the foods are very cheap. While you are enjoying your meal, you can also watch the gorgeous landscapes and views of the park.
