What is it like to live in Mersin? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Mersin is a small mediterranean city which is quite comfortable and lovely. The weather is sunny most of seasons and local people are friendly. Transportation of the city is easy all the roads jointed on straight line road which is parallel to the sea. Also it is connected with Adana city with a railroad and between Mersin-Adana there is historic settlement which calls Tarsus. There are many entertaintment opportunuties with its nature, location.
What is the student lifestyle like in Mersin?
Its quite active with university's variety of clubs and groups. live costs are favorable for students.
How much does it cost to live in Mersin?
ıts up to needs and choices of person. but there is cheap ways to live. basicly the dormitory cost of Mersin university is more or less 300 turkish liras. Also there is lots of student houses these are favorable too. this way would be the same with dormitory or a little more than it.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Mersin? Is there any advice you can give?
The english speaking rate is a little low in the city because of that maybe it can be difficult. But if you contact the university or the student groups or english speaking groups in mersin it wont be difficult. The student house districts are; University Street, the and of univesity street Vipol and Pozcu.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The weighted species all related with meat. There is special local dish calls 'Tantuni'. But its fast food. Local homemade dishes are more variable. The special ones are; Tapı:kind of bread, Kısır:it includes fine bulgur and vegetables, Batırık:diluted Kısır with water and added burnt sesame seed paste. I love all of them!
What places would you recommend visiting in Mersin?
In the old center Enteller Pedestrian Road, the most popular district Pozcu-most cafes,restaurants,shoppings,bars-, Soli Pompeipolis and near famous district Viranşehir. For the historic and natural beauties; Kızkalesi, Cennet Cehennem, Yerköprü Waterfall, Atatürk House Museum, Latin Italian Catholic Church, Göksu Delta, Anemurium Ancient City. Mersin's city center is small but the districts of Mersin very large and all of them has its own beauties.
