Merida is one of the safest cities to live in Mexico, you can live here with the reasurance that nothing will happen to you, you can walk alone at night.
Merida is kind of divided in to two parts, the north and the south.
In the north you will find it better, the economy is higher, there are a lot of things to do, there are plenty of restaurants, malls and little stores of different kinds.
In the south of Merida the economy is not as high as in the north of the city, but you can find restaurants and stores too.

Merida has a wide gastronomy, it is one of the best in Mexico, there are a lot of dishes with meat, but if you are vegetarian you can also find options.
You can try Tacos de Cochinita, Panuchos, and there are a lot more.
You can also find typical mexican food everywhere, and tacos are cheap.

Downtown is really important to visit, but there are a lot of places outside of the city that are also important to visit, for example Izamal, Chichen Itzá, and there are also this natural pools called Cenotes everywhere in Merida and on the outsides of the city.

Is the nightlife good in Mérida? Where is good to go?
Downtown is always a good idea to have a great night, there are plenty of bars, nightclubs and restaurants of different types, but in the north of the city there are two malls called, City Center and Mangus, they are one infront of the other, and here you can find the best nightclubs in the city.
Of course there are many more things to do in the city.
What advice would you give future students heading to Mérida?
I highly recommend students to come to Merida, I know a lot of students from other parts of the world and they all love living here.
The only thing that nobody likes is the weather, I recommend bringing sunscreen and sleevless shirts, shorts and skirts for the warmest months of the year, that are may and june.
