4 Struggles Only Students Living Off Campus Understand
Living in campus comes with its perks. You don’t have to commute to school, you can easily make friends, take part in campus activities, and you get to lay in a little more. On the other hand, living off campus comes with a little more challenges. While you are likely to save some money if you live at home and enjoy eating in your own house as opposed to a crowded dining room, there are quite some challenges to bear. Here are various struggles only students living off campus will understand.
The Early Mornings and Late Evenings
While living away, you will have to wake up early enough to get to school before classes begin. You have to consider traffic during rush hour too on the way back home. At the end of the day, you end up so tired especially if you have no car.
Social Life
In most cases, the only time you meet your classmates is when you are in class. This is never an appropriate time to mingle with other students as they are concentrating on the lesson. you rarely attend campus events too. You, therefore, barely make friends on campus. You remain as the classmate who only a few people can put a name to. You also do not know your classmates well enough and barely connect.
Unforgiving Weather
During the fall semester, the weather is notably hot and humid especially at the beginning. This ha a great effect on students who walk. During your daily journey to and from school, you will end up with a patch of sweat around your underarms and probably on the back where your backpack rests. Then comes the winter days which are quite unforgiving. You are forced to battle with ice as you walk as well as have endless moments wiping off your clothing.
Solo Studying
Living in campus connects you more to classmates and allows you to form study groups and get study buddies. When you are living off campus, this is impossible in most cases. Unless there is some compulsory group work, chances are that getting into study groups will be strenuous. This is more so because most of the study meetings happen after classes, by which time you will have left for your residence. As a result, you get used to studying alone and consulting online academic services when you need help. Fortunately, there are endless sites where you can get Webwork answers and though the services are online as opposed to being one-on-one, you still get to achieve the end results.
Although living off campus is challenging, it offers students a great experience. It allows them a chance to experience the world as it is while still studying. This way, you learn to manage your resources, time and cater to the necessities of your personal life. Living in your own space makes you a lot more responsible and makes it all worth it in the end.
