Experience in Marseille, France
What’s it like living in Marseille? Would you recommend it?
It’s a very pleasant city to live in! It is a very big city with lots of sun where the people are very friendly.
What is the student environment like in Marseille?
I had never studied in Marseille, there are lots of students but as it is a big city you don’t really notice all of the students. Plus, there’s more than one campus in the city.
How much does it cost to live in Marseille?
For a single flat, prices can start from €400 but I think that there are student halls of residence.
What is the country’s food like? What are your favourite dishes?
French food is very good! The Marseille speciality is bouillabaisse, but it is very expensive. If you find one for €20 it’s because not authentic and won’t taste very nice. There are also many olive dishes and rose wine.
What places do you recommend visiting in Marseille?
Notre dame de la garde, MUCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations), the shopping neighbourhood and ‘Calanque’.
And what are your favourite places to eat?
La Cantinetta which is an Italian restaurant, it is a little bit pricey, but it is lovely. La boite à sardines, a very good fish restaurant and not too expensive compared to the others. Maga, a pizzeria, as well as other dishes, is cheap and very good.
Wadina serves Lebanese cuisine which is very good and cheap!
What places would you recommend going to for parties in Marseille?
There are lots of bars along the harbour, my favourite places are in the Cours Julien neighbourhood. El Petit Nice have the cheapest beers in Marseille.
