Nightlife in Mannheim

Here's some information and tips about going out in Mannheim!

Student nights

Every Monday evening from 8pm until late, VISUM runs an event called Stammtisch in the L3 cafe near uni. The cafe turns into a nice bar at night, with areas to sit outside and pretty cheap drinks. I cannot recommend going to these enough when you first start, as they're such an easy way to meet people and hopefully make some friends! There's usually a theme and a shot game each week, or you can just hang out for a couple of hours and chat.

Every Tuesday night, VISUM organises a club event at Chaplin (a club at N7). This is sometimes themed, and sometimes just a standard night! It usually starts at 11 and goes on until early morning. The drinks aren't too badly priced and the music is usually quite good.

Every Thursday night, there's an event at the Schneckenhof (a big courtyard at uni). This is run by a different faculty society each week, and usually has some kind of theme. It's actually a really good night - the courtyard is set up with a DJ and lights etc., as well as two bars. The drinks are a little expensive, but nothing too outrageous. You can buy tickets in advance at the presale, or on the door, and they include entry to Chaplin's for the afterparty too (as the Schneckenhof party is only from 9pm until 1am). Definitely worth checking out at least once!

VISUM also occasionally organises one-off events, like pub crawls, so it's worth keeping an eye out for those on their Facebook page.

Non-student nights

There are also a lot of options for going out that aren't affiliated with the uni.

First off, you've got the whole of Jungbusch which is full of bars and a couple of clubs, for example Gatsby and Onkel Otto. Jungbusch is on the outskirts of the centre, and has a reputation for its nightlife. It's much more lively at weekends rather than mid-week, but is great for a bar crawl in particular!

There are also several bars and clubs within Mannheim, although you'll want to check in advance which nights they have stuff going on, and what kind of music is going to be played (as the techno scene is quite big here, and if that's not your thing it might affect your decision of where to go! ). Again, you tend to be better off going to these clubs and bars at the weekend to avoid them being a bit dead!

Hope that helps!
