Advice for a cheap trip to London

Are you thinking of going to London? Do you not want to spend much? Then this post will be very useful to you! Here you will find a list of suggestions for making a trip to London as cheap as possible.

  1. Transport in London: a round-trip on the bus can cost you about 10 pounds, and if you plan well in advance you can get the whole journey for 2 pounds. You can buy a ticket on Megabus or Goeuro. I wrote a blog post about the different companies, you can read it to find out more!
  2. Food: I recommend Tesco's meal deal: for 3 pounds you get crisps, a sandwich and a drink! All the bars rip you off, even a coke costs 2. 50 pounds, so I don't want to imagine eating in a restaurant in London... And the food stalls along the street there are usually neither cheap nor good quality, so get a Tesco meal deal or similar, and if you get tired of sandwiches they also sell salads and ready-made pasta... I also ate McDonald's in London and for 3 pounds you can eat from the savers menu.
  3. The Underground: individual tickets are NOT cheap. I paid 10 euros (there and back) to get to a place very few stops away, whereas a ticket for the whole day costs 12. So I recommend doing this, or, getting an Oyster Card, which costs 5 pounds but it makes every journey a lot cheaper, and you pay only for how far you've travelled.
  4. Accommodation: I am perhaps not the best person to talk about this, because when I went I stayed at a friend's house, but I know that other people have rented an Airbnb and it has always worked out great, so I recommend checking out Airbnb. I have done a mock search for a room on these dates and I have seen that there are places from 9 euros a night, although the average is 82. You can also look at Couchsurfing, where hosts usually offer beds or sofas for travellers to sleep on for free.

Plus, there are loads of cheap youth hostels in London. It's just a matter of looking for them!
