How do you find it living in Loja? Would you recommend it? What is it like?

Loja is a city in the South of Ecuador, it is a small and very calm city. The people don't have any problems in being able to move or perform a procedure. You could say that it is a city where you can have a relaxed life.

What is the student atmosphere like in Loja?

The student atmosphere is very good, there are three universities in the city: the Particular Technical University of Loja (in which I study), the National University of Loja and the International University of Ecuador. The UTPL and the INL have excellent campuses with everything that the students need.

How much does it cost to live in Loja?

Loja, being a small city, has a small monthly cost of living. You can find an apartment from 200 dollars or a room for about 150 dollars, food about 150 dollars, and about 50 dollars for transport and other extras.

Did you have trouble finding accommodation in Loja? Can you give any advice?

The truth is that is not complicated to find accommodation, I would recommend first staying in a hotel to select and seek accommodation with peace of mind. It would be ideal to search near the universities where costs are not high.

How's the country's food? What are your favourite dishes?

The food the best, it is excellent. My favourite dishes of Loja would be the 'Cecina' (a type of thin, unleavened pancake or crêpe of chickpea flour) exquisite dish, also the 'fritada' (pork is cooked in boiling water with various spices and then is fried with pork fat in a brass pan over flame). People who have the opportunity to visit this beautiful city will enjoy the food.

Which places do you recommend visiting in Loja?

Many places, among them the best for me was Vilcabamba, a valley 30 minutes from the city and for many it is the best place in the world to live. In an international publication, it was named as the best place in the world for retirees to live and people live here from all corners of the world, it is simply a paradise. Apart from that you can visit the valleys of Catamayo and Zamora about 40 minutes from the city. In addition, the National Park Podocarpus which is one of the biggest of the country and also can be acceded to the Petrified Forest of Puyango.

And to eat in Loja? Can you name your favourite places?

Among the best in my opinion: "Mama Lola", ribs and exquisite cecina; "200 Miles" the best seafood!, "Carbonero Mirador" an excellent rotisserrie with a great view of the city.

Which places do you recommend for partying in Loja?

For partying there is "Fourth Floor", which has a good atmosphere, "Santo Remedio", which is modern and spacious, "Casa Tinku", which is an excellent rustic bar, "La Fiesta", which is good for dancing.

Any advice you want to give to future students in Loja?

Loja is an excellent city to study, quiet, everything is close, I study in the UTPL which in my opinion is excellent, all quality. Students who come to the city will have a great time.
