City guide Lissabon: 3

Typical trams

Lissabon is the perfect city for strolling people, but the tram is the most beautiful way of transportation. Small, old trams drive slowly through the tasteful, small and steep streets. There are different routes, which almost all start at the 'Praça do Comércio'. The Expresso Oriente will lead you past the highlights of the eastern part of the city, the Circuito Tejo will follow the banks of the Tagus River. From the hills, the beautiful view of the river spreads out from the tram.

Cycling

Between Cais do Sodré and the Belém Tower, a cycling road has been installed, which should motivate both tourists and locals to use their bike more than public transport. The cycling road is connected to a previous installed cycling road, which was already 19 kilometres long. Cycling through the city of 7 hills will give you a different view on the busy capital of Portugal. Take a bottle of water and some sandwiches with you, and you will have the perfect day trip. Enjoy the beautiful architecture and nature which Lissabon offers!

Pavilhão Chinês

The Pavilhão Chinês is a unique concept which has been working for years. The bar is not particularly Chinese, although the name suggests. It consists out of multiple rooms, where all the walls are covered with showcases. In these showcases (and outside them), you can find thousands of collector items like model ships, dolls, beer glasses, tea pots and figurines of Buddha and Popeye. There are also paintings, such as a painting of Finnish and Russian soldiers from World War II. This bar is popular amongst students and people in their 30s. The soft lighting in the showcases gives it a cosy atmosphere and you will never get bored with all the knickknacks around you!
