What happens when you decide to visit a city one day before Easter?
Being in a new country can be a bit overwhelming as new places, people, different cultural norms can make you feel like a stranger on planet earth. For me, the best way to tackle this is to gain as much “ground” as possible, as each success makes me feel more secure of myself, more culturally bathed and more important…less of a stranger.
“Maybe your country is only a place you make up in your own mind. Something you dream about and sing about. Maybe it's not a place on the map at all, but just a story full of people you meet and places you visit, full of books and films you've been to. I'm not afraid of being homesick and having no language to live in. I don't have to be like anyone else. I'm walking on the wall and nobody can stop me.”

So me and my boyfriend used our spring vacation, googled up some places and found a lovely city quite close to Vienna. With this opportunity we also wanted to see how much can we visit in one day and if it is worth it. We only realized that the next day was Easter after we got there. Sooo…. How did that go? Surprisingly good but also with lessons to learn of course, which we want to share.
First of all, at least here in Austria visiting a city one day prior to a major holiday is not something to be afraid of. On the actual day I would advise not to, since apart from some museums almost nothing is open. Visiting Linz thus was really fun, the weather was not that sunny but the holiday spirit got to us instead and everyone was joyful. We even received red Easter eggs as a parting gift from one of the café’s we went.
In this blog I will share with you our experience, what we managed to visit and some tips useful tips. Each article will tell the story of one experience so you can pick what seems interesting to you without having to read all of them. It is your choice!
