What is it like to live in Limerick? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I live in the outskirts of Limerick but no matter where you live there is very easy access into town, especially from the University of Limerick. There are various types of cuisines available in the city for great prices. If you want a great night out you have to go to Costello's Tavern! It's 18s and free entry before 10pm. Some bars and clubs only let in 21s, 20s etc so Costies is a safe bet. Beer pong tables are awesome in there! Pop in to some of the some in the city of the shopping centre Crescent (you can get a bus from the city to the Crescent).

What is the student lifestyle like in Limerick?

It's a very vibrant one. In UL(University of Limerick) there are three pubs on campus so there are great places to grab a pint or just get some food during the day. Every Friday night is International night in the Stables Bar and it's sure to be a good night out. Everyone is generally friendly and will help you with anything you have problems with. There are additional facilities such as free tutor classes and counselling (with certified specialists). There is so much more than that but I don't have room to say them all!

How much does it cost to live in Limerick?

It's very easy to get student accommodation, I would say for a good one it would cost 3000 euro for a whole semester (your own room en suite, all facilities paid for). 5 Euro for a pint of almost any beer. 15 Euro for a good lunch in a restaurant (one person) depending on where you're eating. There are all you can eat places for 10 euro per person! The bus is 2 euro for a single ticket into town. A day saver is 4. 20 (you can use this as much as you want in one day with commuter buses). From UL there are hourly buses to Dublin city (3 hours from Limerick for only 10 euro - single one way).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Limerick? Is there any advice you can give?

Book accommodation in the university at least 3 months early. As usual, you should always visit the apartments in the city if you are thinking of living there. This is not needed with university accommodation as they will appear as good as they describe.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I love the sushi restaurant in the city (we call the city 'town sometimes' because Limerick is small). It's called Taikichi and it is to die for! Great service and great food. Rio's for fish and chips. Dominoes, Papa John's or Four Season's for pizza. Sign up at thedeliverguys.ie to have takeaway delivered to you (because some restaurants don't deliver)

What places would you recommend visiting in Limerick?

The Hunt Museum. Icon (club) in Smyths Bar. Thomond Park for a match. King John's Castle. The Crescent Shopping Centre. People's Park.

Is it good to eat out in Limerick? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

As I said, the sushi is phenomenal in Taikichi.

Is the nightlife good in Limerick? Where is good to go?

Icon. Costello's Tavern. The Lone Wolf. Charlie Chaplin's. Dolan's Pub. Crush87. There nightlife is very lively.

What advice would you give future students heading to Limerick?

Be sure to look out for student events in the university. For UL Thursday nights are student nights in Crush 87. Keep an eye out for your belongings on nights out and/or if you are alone. Try make new friends, it will make things easier to adapt to life in Limerick.
