Experience in Limerick, Ireland, by Dan
What is it like to live in Limerick? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Limerick is a great city. The people are nice and there is plenty to do in the city, with the Munster Rugby team based there, and in the surrounding counties Clare, Cork and Kerry.
What is the student lifestyle like in Limerick?
The university is great. Everything is on campus including accommodation. The gym facilities are excellent and they have facilities for various sports, from soccer to badminton.
How much does it cost to live in Limerick?
Accommodation can vary depending on where you live. On campus is more expensive but you are much closer to college. Off campus is about 250-320 € a month, including bills. Public transport is 2 € into the city center (by bus one way). Buses go every 15 mins during the week.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Limerick? Is there any advice you can give?
On campus fills up fast and the main student estates, College Court and Milford Grange, can go fast too. I would recommend on campus as a first choice and then Milford after that. Contact the accommodations office about availability.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is lovely. Traditional Irish dinners include bacon and cabbage, stew, roast chicken, lamb, beef. I personnally favor the roast chicken with stuffing ham mash and roast potatos, carrots and gravey.
What places would you recommend visiting in Limerick?
Thomond Park, King John's Castle, Gaelic Grounds, Cliffs of Moher in Clare...
Is it good to eat out in Limerick? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
There are a few take away's in the area. There also a couple of nice restaurants in the city and on campus.
Is the nightlife good in Limerick? Where is good to go?
Yes, the college bar, The Stables, is great for interacting with fellow students. All the clubs are in a 2 min walk of each other.
What advice would you give future students heading to Limerick?
Trying experience the irish sports, hurling gaelic football..., if you can. They are the backbone of the Irish heritage.
