Why did you choose to go to Limerick, Ireland?

I absolutely wanted to go to Ireland and UL was the only Irish partner university of my home university.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

4 months. 190 euros per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Limerick?

It's relaxed and nice. The campus is nice, with shops and some bars. Most of the student life takes place on the campus or in the student accomodations.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Limerick to other students?

Yes, definitely. The city may be less charming than Dublin or Cork, but the good thing about that is that it is less touristy and thus more authentic. UL is a great university with good teachers and loads of courses to chose.

What is the food like?

Like anywhere else in Ireland: like a big, everlasting birthday party of an 8 year old. Lasagna + french fries, pizza + fries, fries + fries... buy some fruits or die.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Limerick?

It took some time, but in the end I found a nice apartment 2km from UL.

How much does it cost to live in Limerick?

Αpprox. 320 euros rent + 200 euros food + 200 euros fun, traveling... per month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?

As English is the "international" language, also for the Erasmus students from different countries, you'll speak it all the time. There are English courses at UL, too.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Limerick from your city?

Ryanair Karlsruhe-Baden - Dublin. Bus to Limerick.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Limerick?

Molly's if you like clubbing. One of the pubs along the river, if you like great, authentic Irish folk music.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Limerick?

The restaurants and bars on the campus are nice (I recommend "Soup and Sandwich"). AND I went to the Milk market in the city every Saturday. There is a lovely shop with great cheese, dried tomatoes, fresh baguette, olives a. s. o. and they'll prepare you a nice, oily meal you can enjoy while listening to some live music and watching the people on the market.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

St Mary's Cathedral, hunt museum, UL concert hall, Frank McCourt museum, racecourse.

Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Limerick?

UL and the city of Limerick are great for an Erasmus semester. Have fun and enjoy!
