5 parks that you should visit in the city of Lima
Hello everybody! I hope that you are all well. My dear city of Lima which already has 10 million inhabitants, desperately needs many parks and green areas to keep growing. Thinking about this situation, I want to share with you some parks you can discover within the city of Lima, where you can relax and have a good time. As well as, continuing to learn more about the history of "the city of kings".
Without further introduction, let's start with each one of the parks that I recommend visiting in Lima, lets see them!
1. Campo de Marte Park
This park is located in the Jesús María district. It is one of the biggest parks which also has a lot of history. In this park and Lima in general, you will find different monuments such as; the monument to the Mother, the monument to the Defenders of the Border, the Jorge Chávez monument and the Eye that Cries monument, among many others. Regarding the Eye that Cries monument, I want to tell you that it is in honour of all of the victims of the terrorism that devastated Peru at the end of the 80s.
2. The Park of the Reserve
If what you are looking for is an environment where you can find history and fun in one place, then this is the park for you. This park is historic, because during the Pacific war, it acted as a meeting point for the Defence of Lima. On the other hand, in terms of fun, we have things such as the Magic Water Circuit where you can watch the lights and the water play games. In total you can enjoy 13 parts of the circuit, each one different to the other, which I recommend visiting at night. (If you want more information about this park you can click here , where I have shared my experience of the park in more detail.
3. El Olivar Park
I could not fail to mention one of the oldest parks in Lima which is located in the San Isidro district. This park has more that 1700 olive trees and among the trees are it's different birds that we can discover. Also, another interesting place to visit is the happiness tree, which is a little olive tree and according to tradition it was planted by San Martín de Porres himself. It is said that those couples who approach this point and swear eternal love, will be fulfilled the vow and the promise, so think about it! (If you want more information about this park click here , where I have given my experience of the park in more detail)
4. Park of the Exposition
One of the parks that are located in the centre of Lima, is a park that has an interesting selection of environments to visit, such as the Moorish and Byzantine pavilions and the Chinese fountain. You can also find different food festivals at the weekend as well as activities for all the family. On the other hand, I also recommend you to visit the Lima Art Museum or also known as the MALI which is inside this park. (If you want more information about this park click here where I have given my experience of the park in greater detail)
5. The Friendship Park
Now we are going to move to another district, known as Surco, , where you will find the traditional Friendship Park. In this park there is a moorish arch which is a replica of the original. The original can be found at the entrance to Arequipa avenue and it is said that it was a gift from Spain during the centenary of Peruvian Independence. (If you want more information about this park click here where I have given my experience of the park in greater detail)
Those are only five of the hundred of parks that are in Lima, a city that is constantly moving.
I hope that you have enjoyed this small description and that it is useful to you, when you come to Lima! Thank you for reading these stories and references of places that transcend time and make us think about Lima as having the right to be a better place to live! Until next time, Lima-lovers!
