How much does it cost to live in Lille?

The cost of living in Lille is still average.

Rent in the city costs around 350 euros with bills included, you can live well on 200 euros a month, and its closeness to Belgium gives us the chance to drink some cheaper beers.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lille? Is there any advice you can give?

In terms of accommodation, it isn't difficult to find them if you look before you arrive (the start of July) and if you don't mind being located far away from the city centre (there is a very good public transport system! ).

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The dishes from the capital of Flandres are really delicious.

Chicken with Maroilles sauce, Flemish Carbonade (stew), the Welsh, etc.

My favourite dish is still definitely Chicken with Maroilles sauce after having bought it fresh on Wednesday morning at the Wazemmes Market.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The Grand Place, Place de la Republique, the belfries, the Citadelle Park, the Jardin Vauban, the Jean Lebas Park...

What's it like to eat out in Lille? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I like eating in the estaminets (small traditional restaurants) such as Chez La Vieille, Au Vieux de la Vielle), but it is a bit expensive for students to do that.

The brasseries in the vicinity of the train station are affordable (Les 3 Brasseurs).

What advice would you give to future students heading to Lille?

Don't be scared due to the fact that that the weather is not as nice as in the South.

The people from here are all welcoming and generous, you will always meet nice people and the Erasmus community couldn't be more active!

We made a lot of incredible memories from coming here and you will be the next to.
