What is it like to live in Lille? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Lille is a very pretty city, which is definitely worth visiting. It's not big nor small. I'd recommend it to someone who is interested in art and architecture. The locals are very welcoming and fun, and there are lots of Erasmus students. The city could appeal to everyone because there are lots of things to do: sport, walk around, go shopping... It's a very lively city.

What is the student lifestyle like in Lille?

It depends on the people and your course. Generally people have a strong work ethic. But for those who like going on nights out, there are lots of interesting bars and clubs, where you can meet lots of new people.

How much does it cost to live in Lille?

I can't say exactly, but it is not very cheap. I recommend not living in the city centre, but to look for accommodation in the surrounding areas. Don't worry, public transport consists of metros and buses which pass through the whole city.

Do you like the food? What are your favourite dishes?

It's really nutritious. They have many dishes based around cheese and ham, and you can find chips everywhere! One of the typical dishes of Lille is literally just mussels and chips. The city will also appeal to those who are mad about beer...

What places would you recommend visiting in Lille?

The Lille Palace of Fine Arts, the Citadelle Park, Lille Old Town, Charles-De-Gaulle Square.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lille?

I love the Latina Cafe, the music is really good and it is always really lively in there. I also recommend Decale, it is not that well-known but it's really cool to go to with friends. The bar La Plage is also really good.

Any advice that you'd like to give future students heading to Lille?

Most importantly, enjoy yourselves; ) And don't forget your coats because it's really cold here basically all year long!
