What is it like to live in Lille? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Lille is a really great city, especially for students! I've lived there for 2 years, and I really love the city, I recommend it twice rather once! Lille is a very beautiful city, particularly the old city. There are a lot of beautiful places, restaurants and pubs.

What is the student lifestyle like in Lille?

There are a lot of students in Lille, and a very good atmosphere. It is really simple to meet people, there are a lot of places for that, like Rue Solférino.

How much does it cost to live in Lille?

The accommodation is not very expensive, there are a lot of student accommodations, near the Universities and in the center of Lille.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Lille? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not difficult to find an accommodation, there are a lot of accommodations made for student. You can find a lot of things searching on the Internet: crous-lille or leboncoin.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is typically French. There is some particular Lille food like: mussels and chips, cheese, beer!

What places would you recommend visiting in Lille?

Places to go: Grand Place, Rue Solférino, Théâtre Sébastopol.

There are many good restaurants in Lille, not expensive.

Some examples:

  • L'Arrière Pays (Rue Basse)
  • La Place (Place de Rihour)
  • La Chicorée (Place de Rihour)

Is the nightlife good in Lille? Where is good to go?

I think Lille is the best city I've been in terms of party! There are few pubs in Rue Solférino. It is the place where all students meet, especially on Thursday night. There are also some good places in the old town, like Time Out or Le Dandy Bar.

What advice would you give future students headed to Lille?

If you really want to meet people, the University is the best way.

People like when you try to speak French, but a lot of people understand and talk English, so, it is not really a matter.

Lille is used to welcoming a lot of foreigners, so you will be welcome!
