Erasmus Experience in Lille, France
Why did you choose to go to Lille, France?
I chosed Lille because the location of the city is really nice. From this place really easy to travel anywhere in Europe.
Its a tipical university student's city, so you are never bored here, i swear.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
First i got the scholarship just for the first semester, but now i have signed a new contract, so i'll stay for the second semester. I get around 500 euros from my school monthly, and i think if you want to travel you need around 700-800 euros/month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Lille?
Amazing. This is the one an only word to explain. You will make friends from the whole world, and you will be a new person.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Lille to other students?
Definitely.
What is the food like?
You can buy various amazing french food in the supermarkets. And also u can eat cheap lunch in the uni canteen.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Lille?
Yes. I live in a residence and the application fee costed around 250 euros.
But if u wanna live in a rented room... maybe u don't have to pay that fee.
How much does it cost to live in Lille?
Around 700-800euro/month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
No, not easy. Yes, i attend french lessons every week, but its not enough.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Lille from your city?
By plane.
Brussels Charleroi airport and then flibco shuttle, so easy.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Lille?
Rue solferino and next to this. This street is the party street, there are many pubs and clubs.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Lille?
Next to Flandres there are several good reataurant and in the vieux lille. Oh, and if u want really really cheap and big meal... go to the GÜR kebab, amazing.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Lille in the future?
Come for one year, one semester in not enough.
And if u really wanna improve ur french, dont be afraid to get your courses in french and not just in english. Its difficult the first time, but there is no other way to practise.
