What is it like to live in Leoben? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Leoben is a small city in the center of Austria. The city is big enough to do everything you want and small enough to reach everything by walking or by bike. I really like to live in Leoben, because it is very welcoming. If you sit at the center square and drink a beer (we have a brewery! ) you will meet lots of people you know.

What is the student lifestyle like in Leoben?

The Montan University of Leoben is a high quality and well known university. The education is very good and the professors are very anxious to give the students the best knowledge. Of course we have a lot of student parties which are organised by different departments or associations.

How much does it cost to live in Leoben?

In comparison with other Austrian university cities Leoben is the cheapest. You have some student discounts at restaurants and cafés: for example for pizza and beer(0, 50) you pay about 8 euros. At student parties the beer costs 2€.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Leoben? Is there any advice you can give?

We have a lot of dormitories and also nice flats to live alone or with other students. We have a database at the university, so I think it is the best start for searching for a room.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The Austrian kitchen is amazing: Schnitzel, Strudel, Knödel, Schweinsbraten etc. But you also find international restaurants e. g. Italian.

What places would you recommend visiting in Leoben?

The old town of Leoben is very small, you can visit it in a half day (museum included). Near Leoben you have the possibility of hiking, skiing, etc.

Is it good to eat out in Leoben? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is very nice to eat out, but as I said, the city is not very big, so you may eat sometimes the same. I like going to the Italian restaurant 'Fellini' or eat sushi.

Is the nightlife good in Leoben? Where is good to go?

In the beginning of the semester you have every day one student party and they are great. During the semester there are 2 to 4 per month. We also have a lot of nice bars and lounges. You find all the bars in the center.

What advice would you give future students heading to Leoben?

Leoben is a very welcoming city, and also the university has about 3, 500 students. That's why the quality is very good. In the master courses are approximately 15 students and you know all professors and they know you! After one or two month you will know nearly every person at the parties, so you can celebrate as a big family.

Leoben would be an experience you will never forget!
