What is it like to live in La Paz? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I think La Paz and Bolivia in general is a great place to get to know. If you want to know South America, Bolivia is the country with the most indigenous people in the whole of the American Continent, it is a country where you can experience the real indigenous culture because Bolivia is not globalised, or at least not so globalised like most countries. Bolivia does not even have Mc Donalds or H&M or IKEA.

In La Paz you will be able to live closer to the traditional Bolivian culture, eat traditional food, learn the traditions of the Incas and so on. La Paz in particular is the city with more indigenous people, more than any other city in Bolivia. However, it also has a cosmopolitan population due to its own status as the capital. There is an important Bolivian population which has European descent. In La paz there are English, German, French and Italian schools and there are young people who are more related to Europe than to Bolivia. In La Paz you will find very different contrasts in terms of social class. But the good thing is that you can get to know both sides of La Paz, you will see that there are people of European descent who are friends with people who are more related to the Incas.

La Paz is a big city but not too big. I think the size of the city is perfect because you can cross the city in just 40 minutes from one side to the other. La Paz has a lively night life and in terms of theatre, music and art it always has new events.

Student life is great in La Paz. People are extremely friendly, particularly with foreigners. Every one knows each other in class and there are activities in which everyone is included. They also often do trips to the Amazon forest or to the South of Bolivia to the colonial cities of Potosi and Sucre, which have a rich history.

How much does it cost to live in La Paz?

Bolivia is the cheapest country in South America. You can eat delicious food for less than 1. 50 pounds or less than 2 euros. Everyone eats properly in Bolivia.
