Living in Kumasi is full of fun. The people in Kumasi are generous which makes living very comfortable. The language is one of the easiest to learn is being spoken in the whole of Ghana. Foodstuffs in Kumasi are the cheapest among all the top cities in Ghana.
What is the student lifestyle like in Kumasi?
Living expenses are very low in Kumasi and as students, it makes their stay as convenient as possible. The crime rate here is very low and there are a lot of entertainment avenues which you can go to release stress during weekends as there is a saying that "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy". There is also a giant library in the heart of Kumasi assisting students in whatever book they need to read or to do their research.
How much does it cost to live in Kumasi?
With low living expenses in Kumasi, a student can budget for as low as $250 a month.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Kumasi? Is there any advice you can give?
Accommodation is always readily available. It's the easiest to find when you get the right person or an agent to assist you. It is also affordable.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Almost all the people in Kumasi are into "Fufu", food prepared by pounding cassava and plantain together. It's really delicious. All kinds of dishes in the world can be found in the restaurants in Kumasi at cheap prices. My favourite dishes are Fufu with goat soup and Banku with okro stew...
What places would you recommend visiting in Kumasi?
I will recommend the Kings Palace first, the Armed forces Museum, Kumasi Zoo, the Mampong escarpment, Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital Museum, Lake Bosomtwe, and Ntonso and Bonwire- the 'Kente' weaving towns (the Ashantis clothes).
Is it good to eat out in Kumasi? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yeah, you can and my favourite spot is the Kintampo waterfalls.
Is the nightlife good in Kumasi? Where is good to go?
Security is massive in Kumasi with a low crime rate which makes nightlife enjoyable. One can go to the BarNas spot, Plus2 pub and the Kumasi Mall cinema centre.
What advice would you give future students heading to Kumasi?
Anyone who has the idea of studying in Kumasi should first of all be very pleased. Again, students should plan to live a normal student lifestyle to avoid being a target by thieves
