Kuala Lumpur's night life: Oregi restaurant

SS15 is a pretty chilled area that a lot of college students hang out. It is located in Subang Jaya and it's really nearby international colleges and universities such as Taylor’s, Sunway College and INTI College. So the area is pretty popular with the students coming from these colleges. I think it's also a pretty good place to get to know people and communicate. The place is freaking crowded during the weekend. There are a lot of restaurants, bars and cafes around the area; making it super convenient to hang around that area. Now this time that I went back to Kuala Lumpur, SS15 and its surrounding restaurants have become a sanctuary of sorts for them and their constant hang out spot was “SS15”. I was annoyed at first if I'm being honest, constantly being asked to hang out there but after once or twice I became a regular too.

I definitely think you guys should go check out the area if your accommodation is nearby that place. There is restaurant that we go to regularly and that’s where I'm going to recommend you guys to go to. Their food is great and so is everything else. That “Everything else” is pretty much what I’ll get to in a bit.

The restaurant is called “Oregi” and it’s awesome. Well it's awesome as a cheap place with bomb food. But first let’s see how we can get there as cheaply as possible.

How to get there:

The heavens have blessed Kuala Lumpur with new LRT stations ever since last year. I remember when I went to college, there were none and I used to take the bus every day and it would take me about 2 hours to get to college. But yes that’s another story of my misery for another day. So yes, thanks to the new LRT stations, you guys can get on the “Kelana Jaya” line from any station and get off at “SS15” LRT station. I usually got on from “Universiti” station, paid about 3. 50 ringgits and got to SS15. Guys keep in mind that getting the “My rapid” card is so much more economic. But the catch is that you can only get it from “KL Sentral”, it's completely free to get but that’s the only place you can purchase it. Anyhow once at the LRT station, the restaurant is about a 2 minute walk from the station. Use google maps to get there as easily as possible.

Description and experiences:

I remember once going here after college and it came across as a really average place to go when you have nowhere else to hang out in. Now however, they have really stepped up and started to get so much better. You guys please keep in mind that I'm not saying this place is a “Must go”. Like no, don’t come all the way from Kuala Lumpur, just so you go to Oregi. If you are in that area, then this place is a pretty chill place to hang out and smoke some shisha. Anyways nowadays the place is packed with college kids. Kuala Lumpur is alive as hell in the night time and that’s not only in the clubs and bars. It's in restaurants like this too.

(Outside sitting area)

The only complaint I have is that, it can get quite hot and stuffy there to be honest. Like once in a while we go there and I'm sweating so much, because the air is stuffed and everyone is smoking like a chimney. In those times, you really need to ask the staff to turn on the fan. The inside area is completely fine and cold, but you can’t sit inside if you plan on smoking shisha.

Alright so I keep talking about shisha, let’s get into more details about that. I'm pretty sure all of you guys know what a shisha is, right? But in case you don’t Shisha or Hookah, is that Middle Eastern water pipe that people use to smoke Tobacco. Gosh I can’t believe I'm teaching about Shisha on my blog. I'm still a good influence guys, this is just for information’s sake. Anyhow so not only in Middle Eastern countries, but also in Malaysia people smoke a lot of shisha. Friends gather around to smoke and spend time with one another. The shisha in this restaurant is really really good. It's one of the best shishas I've ever had in all of Kuala Lumpur. The price is also pretty cheap, about 14-16 ringgits and you can change the tobacco for a smaller price after a while. I definitely suggest smoking the shisha here. I'm not a really big shisha fan, but I always try out the shisha here.

Now moving on from the shisha, the menu is pretty satisfying. Their drinks are all fine; there is nothing special about them so I'm not going to bother mentioning them. I would say the menu of this place has a little bit of everything, there is Arabic food and then there is western food too. Almost everything on the menu is good, I'm not even kidding, the place has generally good food.

(The mushroom spaghetti)

For appetizers the Hommus is good, it's not the best I've had but it's good enough to start with and it's cheap; I mean come on, 7 ringgits is pretty much nothing. You know that’s like less than 2 euros. The Shishtawok is pretty good; just make sure you ask for extra bread. Shishtawok is an Arabic barbequed chicken so it has their own spices and herbs, I really enjoyed it. Okay and lastly one item you wouldn’t expect it to be good is the pasta. I recently tried the Carbonara and even though they used spaghetti in it, the taste was pretty good. I was really surprised. I'm not gonna go through more items on the menu, that would just be repetitive and boring. I would say that with a shisha and food, it would cost about 30 to maximum 40 ringgits. That makes Oregi a pretty affordable place to eat in. I definitely think it's worth it.

Hope you guys enjoy this piece and let me know what you think.

Cheers
