Arrival at KL

My last two summer breaks have been very long after having joined university in Scotland, and I must say I love those so much; my last one went on from May to September, Quite long eh? During that time I would reunite with family and friends; enjoy our beloved home city, Marbella; and also get the time to travel around. We went to Portugal and three other cities in Spain for a few days, but those are different stories.

Let's get back to the point now! So yeah, after another unforgettable summer, the real adventure-time had finally come and that was me queuing up to board the plane to come to Malaysia. I found Turkish airlines to be not only the cheapest option available but also the fastest one; it was only 20 hours long including the scale at Istanbul which was almost 6 hours, and I say only because it's shorter than other carriers that may take from 23 to over 40. It was terribly boring though, specially at Istanbul's airport, where getting WiFi is an oddissey and there's nothing really much to do. I wanted to go visit the city but thought it would be risky, as I was completely clueless about the place and just didn't want to miss my flight by any chance; I'll definitely go there again with more time next time and give it a good one-day visit though!

So I stayed at the airport all the time like a good boy and found an Italian restaurant that had WiFi, it felt like finding water on the desert (never been on the desert though); had some food and a couple beers, and made my wait much shorter. Meanwhile, I just couldn't stop thinking about what was yet to come; So excited!

It was in the night when I finally arrived at Kuala Lumpur, and since I still hadn't sorted out the accommodation near the university, I simply decided to stay at a hotel at the city centre to fulfil what had been my biggest desire for a long time: Seeing the Petronas Twin Towers. After booking the room and getting myself a Malaysian SIM card, still at the airport; I was full equipped and ready to go. I think I fell for the touristy trap though, as I went straight ahead out of arrivals and got into what I thought it was a simple taxi, but it was a "limo", which is a more expensive transport but more confortable instead of the "budget taxi" you can get if you go downstairs, and would be using taxi-meter instead of giving you a set price.

Nevertheless, I was already there, I honestly couldn't care less about anything. After a long 30-40 minutes drive we reached the hotel, which happened to be right in the tourist hot-zone Changkat Bukit Bintang, where you can find many different pubs, and even a Spanish restaurant! (I beleive these are everywhere nowadays) But I didn't go into any as I had other plans.

Once I dropped all my stuff in the hotel room, I set the navigator and made my way to the towers walking; ignoring the hotel staff that recommended me getting a taxi. It was an enjoyable walk and it wasn't even that far away after all.

As I was getting closer to them a feeling of happiness kept growing inside of me, I just couldn't believe I truly was there; the city, the tall buildings, the lights, the people... And the heat, of course; It was all so different! Such an amazing experience.

Arrival at KL

This was my very first photo taken in Malaysia. I'm sure thousands of people may have taken one like this before, but it's okay, this one is mine.

After admiring them and hanging around the fountain at KLCC Park for some time (right behind the towers and shopping mall), I headed back to get some food at Petaling Street

Arrival at KL

There were food places everywhere in here! I could also see they were selling durians (The king of all fruits, very typical of Malaysia), but I didn't want to try them on my own and wait to be with friends who could recommend me which one to have and why.

Once my stomach was satisfied I made my way through this street full of massage parlours, rejecting the continous and annoying massage offers, and eventually reached the hotel were I was staying.

Time to sleep and prepare for going to the university campus the next morning.
