Copenhagen. Day 2 - the lectures continue
The lectures continue
After the lunch the lectures continued, of course. The plan was to be there until 4 p.m. and then we were free to do whatever we wanted. Though this time from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. was pretty tiring in all and that we would understand after the lectures were finished! However, I wanted to sightsee the city of Copenhagen, of course, and there was no time to go home, so that I would walk around the city after the lectures and go back to my accommodation in the evening or at night, tired of walking, but happy for the things I did and see that very day.
Well, we had some other cases about kidneys and we discussed some things about them and then it was time for our small excursion in the university building, which we were looking forward to for this whole time.
So, we packed our things and followed our organizers outside of the building to see the place where we were going to from the outside and see what it was. To be honest, I didn’t think, that there would be so much passion put into the making of that building and area around it. There were some statues of people describing their behavior and some of them were pretty ironic, I guess. there were some colourful pipes on the university building up there, and the theory was, that those pipes were the vessels, I mean, artery, vein and the lymphatics, however, it was just a theory, as they told us, but I guess, that was right, because it was an anatomy and medicine department after all.
Well, then we went into the building, where we would go upstairs all way to the roof, which they called the luxe apartment, where many people haven’t been and we were the lucky ones to have a chance to go up there for a visit.
We went through many hallways and rooms and everything around there was amazing, I mean, there were medical posters and some window exhibitions and historical stuff and there were chairs and tables and table football and stuff like that. There were also many couches around some tables, where you could just sit and study or do whatever you wanted, so it was all about comforting students to let them have a free will to study in a comfortable environment.
And then we went up with an elevator. The room was pretty large there and there were all those tables and chairs and the walls were almost just windows there. There was also this artificial fireplace, which was built in the wall and it was pretty lovely, I must say.
Well, you could see half of the city from the top of that building and it was really beautiful from up there. Kathrine had also brought some chips and champagne and some pretty lovely glasses of champagne and it was kind of celebration of our starting of that course in internal medicine.
The view from the room was splendid. It had these large balconies or whatever and we could go outside and look from there. There was seen the Rigshospital very well from thereand we could even see its helicopter place, which was pretty large. That Rigshospital was to be the very hospital, that we would visit and have a little practice there on ultrasound and stuff, that I was pretty much looking forward to and that would be at the end of the first week.
Well, we drank champagne and ate some chips and it had been ages since I last ate some chips, so that I pretty much liked them, and we got to know each other a little bit and turned out, that many people were from Denmark itself, while some of them were from the Netherlands and Japan and Germany and Slovenia and Slovakia and Austria and Turkey and Spain, etc.
Getting my dorm key changed
It was a pretty lovely ending of the first lectures and after some time of being there it was already time to leave. Besides, I had to be at the Housing Foundation office until 6 p.m. to change my dorm keys, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to access the dorm floor myself without anyone’s help and it was already 5 p.m., so that I had to go. It needed somewhere about half an hour or even more to get to that Housing Foundation office and, besides, I didn’t really know where exactly it was located and Kathrine told me , that she did struggle in finding that building herself, so that I would have to search for it a little bit. So that, I said good-bye to people around there and went to get a new key!
Well, I walked all the way back to my accommodation, however it didn’t seem that easy. Of course, I knew some streets and I could recognize them, but it was only the second day of me being in Copenhagen and I didn’t expect to know the whole road from my accommodation to the university building by heart already, though I was still kind of disappointed in me that I couldn’t get to the accommodation without getting the help from the google maps.
Getting to the Gronnegardsvej, where my accommodation was, I needed to walk straight ahead until there was this arch, where I needed to turn right and the building was just there, though one wouldn’t recognize it at once, as the sign of the Housing Foundation office was just beside the door on a tiny piece of paper. Well, I rang the bell and they opened the door and I got in.
The room was full of paperwork and computers and there were three people there. One of them was this nice lady who opened the door for me and asked about my problem. She already knew, that I was coming there for my keys, as Kathrine had already called them and told them about my problem. They told me, that they only had another spare key, that they hoped that it worked, because it had just been some recent changes in door locks and there were not many keys for that lock. Well, I hoped, that those keys would work and went to my accommodation to check them. It was a pretty good news, that those keys worked and I would have no problem in getting in and out by myself!
Since it was still not dark yet and it was a pretty good weather outside, I decided to have a little break at home and then go outside and hang out. We had this cool common roomin there and it was full or coaches and tables and some good books and stuff like that and it was really cozy there, so that I prepared some cocoa for myself and sat there drinking it while surfing the Internet with my phone.
