A fast-changing city
I'm visiting the city with intervals of a few years and each time I return, I notice new buildings and new but highly advanced developments.
Konya is a University heaven, it's got a ton of universities and schools and a ton of companies which become prospect employees for both local and foreign students - as most companies in Konya have international tradings too (and the local companies could really use some of your knowledge - especially on their website and on translations and English descriptions).
Konya is definitely a city where you could both maintain a study and a worklife. Job positions should be fairly easy to find and obtain, but I haven't yet done so myself, and prices for accommodation are fair.
Konya is bound to surprise you if you've thought you would get to experience a smaller example of Istanbul, Antalya or Antalya. Konya has a nightlife close to nill, but is slowly getting there. The city is very conservative and have several religious monumental buildings and ancient artefacts and museums. It is the former capital of the Selçuk Dynasty and have well-preserved original remnants from their time of rule and take pride in and preserve their history. For that, it's quite good at attracting foreign tourists too and so, we also have hotels intended for people of various cultures - and so, exchange students living in Konya have a chance of applying and acquiring a position in one of these.
Konya is also home to Mevlana, now the symbol of the city.
For the past 13 years, the city have been exposed to a lot of outside-exposure from both the rest of Turkey and foreign countries. These have led to a lot of investments to be made and great things were achieved from this. Modern buildings and city centre were build, the great sports hall was built and now houses the matches of the Turkish national team, a butterfly park was built and much more, even a miniature park with famous destinations of all over the world and much more.
If you appreciate experiencing both traditional and modern cultures and the clash of these and want the option of being close to several museums and attractions, then Konya is a heaven. But parties late into the night are pretty much non-existent. This is a slow-phased city and a beautiful one at that..and just keeps getting better.
