A day off in a spectacular Kiev

Published by flag- Denys Momot — 4 years ago

Once, when I was fed up with studying in May 2013, I decided to visit my sister in Kiev and simply had fun. Additionally, it was a good idea to explore a couple places that I did not visit before. Without thinking and hesitation, I got packed and went to Kiev to see my sister.

After my arrival in Kiev we met and got prepared to go to the downtown of Kiev. It was just an amazing day the sun was shining and it was not so warm. The atmosphere was excellent. Personally, I felt as if it was summer already and I passed all the necessary exams and nothing bothers me anymore. We had to go to one shopping mall to get concert tickets for my sister. When we reached the downtown of Kiev the first thing we did is got some food at KFC. Sure enough, it was not healthy food but we were out of time.

Visiting Podil

I was into travelling especially to see something new. So, I wanted to see the most visited place in Kiev. And this place is Podil. We met sister's roommate there and it was even more exciting to travel together. Anyway, Podil is the oldest neighborhood in Kiev. And it looks like an old town of Kiev. It consists of many historic buildings and monuments. Before the accident with the fire, it was the most populous neighbourhood in Kiev with over 3500 inhabitants at the beginning of 19 century. Essentially, Podil was not just a place for dwelling it was a developing center with such fields as trading and crafting. Therefore, it caught my attention and I wanted to go there. Indeed the place is spectacular. I had a chance to take several photos and get some snack. All the photos we took are below.

On the next photo, you will see the Ukrainian hero Bohdan Khmelnytsky. He was the Hetman of Zaporozhian Host. Ukrainian people praise and respect him for establishing a Ukrainian Cossack state.

Andriyivskyy Descent

Later, we walked to another historic place which is Andriyivskyy Descent. It is not far from Podil. The way is a little sharp but it is alright for young and energetic people. The descent is more than 700 meters. But you will not feel it if you are a young person. You may see it one of the photos below. This place is considered as a touristic spot. There hundreds of touring strolling and taking photos. The place is famous by its Baroque architecture style and depiction of religion. I was admiring the flawless Saint Andrew's Church. The height of the church is 50 meters. It is probably the biggest Orthodox Church I have ever seen in my entire life.

After long walking, we got in the restaurant and ordered refreshing drinks. We have been discussing our impressions and thoughts about what we saw. I have never seen those historic places of Kiev and I can confirm that they are very attractive and spectacular. Quite soon we have got back home. Consequently, I quickly got packed and went to my hometown the next day.

In the end, I was very happy that I had a break from a dull and agonizing study and got the chance to travel around Kiev with my sister and her roommate. I had a good time and maybe next time I will see more interesting and spectacular places. Hopefully, my sister will be free of work.
