What is it like to live in Jakarta? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Jakarta is a big metropolitan city. like many other big cities, you can not avoid traffic, pollution and crimes. Beside all that, you can have 24 hour non stop indulgence, from bar, restaurants, shopping mall, clubs, street foods and many more.

Sometimes living in Jakarta can be very hard, you have to survive and be very tough. You need to be smart to live in Jakarta, knowing the culture and the people are the keys. However, when you already familiar with the environment, and the people, it will be easy for you to live in Jakarta.

If you are looking for big city, I recommend you to live in Jakarta.

What is the student lifestyle like in Jakarta?

The students in Jakarta are more likely creatives student, sometimes they create trendy fashion and hip lifestyle. They are an independent community, sometimes they are able to create their own source of living, like opening a restaurant, boutique or even a book store, in order to support their financial, since there are also a lot of students that are not from a wealthy family. Students in Jakarta are more vocal now a days, critical with the government, they want to bring changes. What matters in order to keep up in Jakarta is that you have to know how to survive.

How much does it cost to live in Jakarta?

Average monthly cost to live in Jakarta is starting form IDR 1.500.000 (the lowest cost)

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Jakarta? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not difficult to find accommodation in Jakarta, especially 5 stars hotel. However, should you in a tight budget, you can easily find low cost accommodation in tourist area in Menteng and Sabang (Center of Jakarta). Also it is better for you to find guest house or sharing room for monthly basis. You can find all the accommodation via internet. For me to find accommodation near my working place or my campus is better, because it will shorten your travel time and cost.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food are vary in Jakarta, you can easily find local Jakartan food or Indonesian food in many restaurants or street food vendor.

My favorite local Jakartan dishes are Gado-gado and Nasi Uduk. but as Indonesian, I can tell you that you will love other Indonesian food, and there are hundreds of dishes you can find.

What places would you recommend visiting in Jakarta?

In center Jakarta you can visit Kota Tua (old city), Monumen Nasional, and museums for historical places.

You can also visit thousands islands, constellation of beautiful islands in Jakarta, you can have a diving spot there.

And in Jakarta you can find and enjoy a nightlife very easy.

Is it good to eat out in Jakarta? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

it's good and easy to eat out in Jakarta, my favorite spots are in Menteng and in Kemang. you can find stereet food vendor and many restaurants.

Is the nightlife good in Jakarta? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is very good, if you want to spend the weekend or after office hour to hang out with your friends, you can always go to CBD area, many bars open for workers.

Me myself, I like to go to Loewy, Beergarden, Canos tapas bar, Camden, Poste, Murphy's Irish Pub, and many more.

and for clubs you can go to Skye, IImmigrant, Face Bar, Social House, Etc.

What advice would you give future students heading to Jakarta?

For future students to visit Jakarta, try to enjoy Jakarta as much as you can and be smart.
