From Tbilisi to Copenhagen - Ataturk Airport continue

Turkish Delight

So, who doesn’t know about Turkish delight?! It’s very popular thing in Georgia and you will even find them in the large supermarkets just in front of the cassiers. And there are different shops all around Tbilisi, where you can buy them in some reasonable prices.

So, maybe you have heard about Rahat Lokum, which is a Turkish sweet and people really like it. Also, there are so many varieties of that Rahat Lokum, that you can’t even imagine. And since it’s very popular in Georgia, many people like to buy them.

Turkish people are really making it very difficult for others to choose between so many Rahat Lokums! While I was walking around the airport, I saw so many places, where there were these Rahat Lokums sold in all those different boxes and there were even many plates full of them and you could go and taste those pieces. There were so many of them, that tasting each of them made me really full and it was like I was not even hungry anymore. I especially liked those ones with peanuts or nuts or pistachios, because they were even more delicious with those things in them, than the plain ones. However, if you wanted to buy some of them for yourself or for someone else, it was not that cheap. Well, you know, everything’s very expensive if you buy them at the airport!

They also had these Halva, which I like and my grandmother loves it very much, and that’s how I know about it. They had all those different types of halva and you wouldn’t be able to choose between them either.

There’s this one other thing, which I didn’t know they would have it there, because I thought, that it was just a plain cookie thing, however, I was very glad, when I saw it there in that shop. It’s called Biskrem and it’s a cookie with a chocolate filling, but it’s kind of liquid and that’s why I like it, and besides, it has a nutty taste or something like that and that’s why I love it. The sign there said, that it was a special offer in that airport with that Biskrem cookies in a large cookie box and I really wanted to buy it, though I could have it another time, so that I decided not to. But if you happen to bump into it somewhere, I recommend you buying it, because it’s really delicious!

Ice-cream guy

Well, I walked around the airport a lot and then there was this place, where many people were gathered and I saw this guy dressed in old Turkish dressing, I guess, and he had this hat on his head and a red sleeveless jacket with some golden ornaments. He had so many waffle conesthere, that he could give ice-creams to all the people in the airport, if you ask me. And he did those tricks with ice-cream, which they do now in Turkey and which have become pretty popular.

I saw this young girl wanting to have an ice-cream and he did some pretty cool tricks until he gave it to her. Looking at this guy making ice-creams in waffle cones I wanted to have an ice-cream, too, however, I had already had some dessert and I was pretty full, so I couldn’t get any ice-cream right then.

To be honest, the price for one ice-cream was not cheap, but, as I’ve already told you, the prices are always expensive in the airports, so that it was a pretty normal price for an ice-cream bought at the airport, you know.

Toilets in the Ataturk airport

When going somewhere it’s really important to know about toilets and whether there are any at all. So that, after going through that passport control and stuff, I went to see where the toilets were. I went to kind of at the end of the airport, where there were many people outside, and there were many people inside, too, especially in the ladies’ area. However, the toilets were pretty clean considering the crowded situation and that was really good! And the flushes were on sensor, so that no matter how hard you tried, it wouldn’t get flushed until you no longer sat on it!

Of course, the toilets were free of charge there, and the sinks and the mirrors were pretty clean, too, so there was no problem being there at all considering the fact, that too many people used those toilets per minute and they also had kids with them, that made it even worse for the cleaners to do their job, though they did a pretty good job there.

Charity at the Ataturk airport

Being there in this Ataturk airport I had so much time, that I could go in every shop or café and walk around the airport as much as I wanted. And there was this interesting place, where there were some transparent boxes there with some stickers on them and I wondered what they were, because they were not something that was on sale or whatever. When I went closer, I realized, that it was boxes for charity and since I didn’t know Turkish at all, I couldn’t really read what was written on each of those boxes, however, there was plenty of money in those boxes including coins and notes. It was nearby the exit to the city, so that many people could see those boxes and, hence, give some money for charity.
