Iași: The history museum of Moldavia
The exhibitions of the History Museum of Moldavia
Going down, on the ground floor of the Palace of Culture, I visit the History Museum of Moldavia which have currently two main temporary exhibitions, “The royal court of Iași: a rediscovered history” and „Socialization and entertainment in 1900”.
Discovering the fortifications of the former royal court
Walking from one room to another, at a certain point, I stumble acros portions of the floor that are covered with transparent glass that allows me to observe the ruins and the fortifications of the former royal court. At first, I am a little retained and afraid to just walk on these glass windows, the depth of the sites is quite high at times, but I take the courage and strool on top of the what were once the fortifications of the palace. The feeling that I get is so cool and exciting, but still just kind of scary from time to time.
Highlighting the important past of the building
The way in which the Museum of History brings back to life these important elements of the entire historical building is to be appreciatedof course. There are rooms where nothing else is exhibited on the walls, in an aim of felting these so interesting parts to stand out. My friend who is accompaniating me in this trip, gets scared of walking on the glass floors because she is quite afraid of heights, but for me, is so cool and also entertaining in a way to be part of this particular experience.
The experience of walking on transparent glass
Indeed, because the rooms where the such arrangement is set up are locking a bit dramatic due to the strong light coming from the ground with which the ruins highlighted, contrasting with the little darkness of the halls, the experience of walking through the museum can be intense and maybe just a little frightening for those who are afraid of heights or walking on glass windows. I can assure you that wou will not fall.
Same particular elements belonging to the museum's collections
Among the museum’s collection there are other objects that I find very attractive and significant as well, such as the Eastern objects of General Ernest Baliff that are displayed inside of what seems to be a colorful tent, pieces of specific clothing that people were dressed in when they went to theater, a fancy jewelery box, a map of „ România Mare” showing how the country look liked in 1918, the year when all of the Romanian territories were unified together under the King Ferdinand I.
Besides the map, stand a strange but catchy flag made out of metal and on which is also written the year of 1918, and many weapons, swords and armors of different influences.
