Let yourself be charmed by "The Blue Pearl"
Everything started on a Friday afternoon, in May. I was doing my internship in Cádiz: an amazing little city in Andalusia where the sun shines every day with a Flamenco rhythm as a background. So I was walking around, really casually during my afternoon break, when a temporary exposition got my attention. It was a photography exposition, and it was all about this little town in Morocco: Chefchouen. This village kept secret and inaccessible hundreds of years for foreigners, is now a must for visitors. It is famous for being completely blue: buildings, ground, stairs... I told myself "I must go, sooner or later". But those wonderful pictures were stuck in my mind and I felt the need to go there.
At the end of June and of my internship, I went finally there. I had been saving my money and learned more about Chaouen since the day I had visited the exposition. Morocco is right in front of Tarifa, in Spain, so I crossed with a ferry and I took a taxi (Morocco is so cheap! ) to arrive in the mountains, in the heart of the country. I arrived very late at night, but I could feel my soul awakening from the moment I stepped on this blue ground. I was a cocktail of emotions: happiness, astonishment, wonder, curiosity, peace... pure joy. People were very welcoming, helpful, friendly. After buying some Argan Oil from a shop, the owner invited me to his house, to have mint tea with his family. I was spending my days just walking around, getting lost in the blue, discovering new landscapes, watching the craftsmen working in their tiny workshops. Can you imagine living in a fairytale? That was it, literally. The culture is so important, and it can be seen in everything: Henna tattoo artists on the street, musicians, dancers, typical food, plants...
I have spent a week there, and I promised myself to go back at least once again. I feel thankful for having had the chance to discover Chefchouen. That made me also realize that there is so much life outside our own society, far from these standards, from this materialism and thirst for success.
I am glad I entered that exposition. Be curious!
