What is it like to live in Houston? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Living in Houston is a whirlwind. I was born here but I am also a Mexican and this could not be the most perfect place. Houston is a growing melting pot, it has all types of people and it is so welcoming. The economy here is booming, you can find great quality things such as food, housing and entertainment from cheap prices to really expensive prices. The one downside is transportation, we don't have taxis like many other large cities but that is changing. Houston is always growing, the downtown area has changed plenty since I was born and always to accommodate the new way of life.

What is the student lifestyle like in Houston?

Houston is a huge working city so it has improved and expanded the universities to accommodate that way of life. The universities want people that go to school in Houston to stay in Houston so they try to prepare the students very well and make sure they are ready to find a job in their career.

How much does it cost to live in Houston?

Houston can be pricey but there are so many well-priced gems. Everyone lives to their standards pretty much. The closer inside the pricier it gets but Houston is known for great city suburb feel. Sometimes living in the city isn't the best so they have expanded the metro to close suburbs because the population just keeps growing.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Houston? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not difficult. Houston is always growing and building new apartments, condos, houses, and subdivisions. You can find something almost anywhere, depending on your price of course just like any major city.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Oh my goodness, the food here is top-notch. Which mean very good in the slang term. You can pretty much find any type of food. Like I've said before Houston is a huge melting pot and whatever you crave it will give you. I can eat a traditional American breakfast, an Asian styled lunch and a Spanish taste for dinner. Also snaking is huge here, you've got nachos, hot dogs, burgers, pizza, tacos, sushi, wraps, almost anything you want.

What places would you recommend visiting in Houston?

Of course! Houston is so so great, it is hot and cold. There is something for everyone because if you do like the city feel great you can stay and hang out downtown. If you want something quiet and still close just go out 10-15 minutes and you are in a suburb. There is a sport for everyone to see, soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, and football of course. There are endless festivals and museums. Family activities are always great too. Live I said, there is something for everyone.

Is it good to eat out in Houston? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Houston is huge! This is such a difficult question so I will give you a favorite of each craving. For Mexican, Hugo's. For Italian, there are too many. Spanish, mi Luna. American, any BBQ place. For Greek, Niko Niko's. There are a ton of food trucks around town and they are all good. For Asian, Benihanas. For fast food, chick fil A. I could go on and on.

Is the nightlife good in Houston? Where is good to go?

The city is so big that whatever type of person you are you will find that style. If you are into clubs than you have got a huge choice. There are many bars to choose from. There are cool bowling alleys, theaters, cinemas, concerts, sporting games and etc that you can choose from.

What advice would you give future students heading to Houston?

DO IT, MOVE HERE! It is a very welcoming place but be warned about our summers if you aren't used to the humidity. Other than that you will find a place here in Houston and you won't be the only foreigner. You'll make friends in no time, this is one of those places that people love to live in.
